Arizona levies a flat state income tax of 2.5%. Unlike a progressive system, the same rate applies to all of your taxable income rather than rising as you earn more.
Arizona applies a standard deduction of about $16,100 for single filers before the tax is calculated.
On top of this 2.5% state tax, every Arizona paycheck also has federal income tax and FICA (6.2% Social Security plus 1.45% Medicare) withheld.
What changes an Arizona paycheck?
Arizona has used a single 2.5% rate since 2023. Starting with the 2026 tax year, state law replaced the Arizona-specific standard deduction with the federal amount, so the calculator subtracts $16,100 for a single filer, $32,200 for joint filers and $24,150 for a head of household before applying the rate. Older tables that show $8,350 or $16,700 are out of date.
Employees choose how much Arizona tax to withhold on Form A-4 from a short list of percentages, so the amount your employer withholds can differ from the 2.5% rate on the return. This estimate uses the statutory rate on taxable wages instead.
Arizona has no city or county income tax and no state disability payroll deduction. The estimate leaves out the dependent credit, the extra deduction for filers 65 and older, and the charitable-contribution increase to the standard deduction.
