Idaho levies a flat state income tax of 5.3%. Unlike a progressive system, the same rate applies to all of your taxable income rather than rising as you earn more.
Idaho applies a standard deduction of about $16,100 for single filers before the tax is calculated.
On top of this 5.3% state tax, every Idaho paycheck also has federal income tax and FICA (6.2% Social Security plus 1.45% Medicare) withheld.
What changes an Idaho paycheck?
The Idaho State Tax Commission's 2026 percentage-method tables charge 5.3% on wages over $16,100 for single filers and over $32,200 for married filers, matching the federal standard deduction. The calculator uses the same numbers and adds the federal head-of-household amount of $24,150, although the official withholding table treats heads of household like single filers.
The Idaho Child Tax Credit expired for 2026, and the Tax Commission's updated tables no longer include allowances for it. Idaho's annual return also has a small zero-rate band at the bottom of the schedule; the 2025 amounts were $4,811 for single filers and $9,622 for joint filers. The 2026 figures had not been published, so the estimate leaves the band out and overstates state tax by up to about $255 for single filers and $510 for joint filers.
Idaho has no city or county income tax and no state disability payroll deduction, so federal tax, Social Security and Medicare are the other main deductions. Dependents and itemized deductions are not modeled.
