How taxes work in Oregon

Oregon uses a progressive state income tax with marginal rates ranging from 4.8% to 9.9%. As with the federal system, only the portion of your income that falls inside each bracket is taxed at that bracket's rate.

Before the brackets apply, Oregon subtracts a standard deduction of about $2,910 for single filers.

These state brackets are applied in addition to federal income tax and FICA, all of which are withheld from each Oregon paycheck.

What changes an Oregon paycheck?

Oregon's 2026 rates are 4.75% up to $4,550 of taxable income for a single filer, 6.75% to $11,400, 8.75% to $125,000 and 9.9% above that. Married filers and heads of household use $9,100, $22,800 and $250,000. The standard deduction is $2,910 single, $4,685 head of household and $5,820 joint.

Oregon lets taxpayers subtract federal income tax from income, up to $8,750 in 2026. The cap phases out between $125,000 and $145,000 of income for single filers and between $250,000 and $290,000 for joint filers and heads of household. This estimate uses the federal tax the calculator computes and shrinks the cap in a straight line; Oregon's own table drops it in $1,750 steps, so the result can differ by a small amount near those ranges.

Each person also gets a $263 exemption credit, which drops to zero once income passes $100,000 for single filers or $200,000 for joint filers and heads of household. The estimate treats a head of household as one exemption and does not model dependents. Income is taken as annual wages, which stands in for federal adjusted gross income.

Payroll charges outside the income tax include the statewide transit tax at 0.1% of wages and the employee share of Paid Leave Oregon, 0.6% of wages up to $184,500. Neither is deducted in this estimate. Local transit taxes such as TriMet and Lane are employer-paid or self-employment charges and are not modeled.
